Naomi teaches Yoga in London and Brighton and leads retreats and workshops all over the world. She is well known for her passionate and joyful, dynamic and inspirational style of teaching.

Her classes incorporate both the physical and spiritual aspects of the yoga practice, with a strong emphasis on deep vinyasa flow and meditation. Often the focus is on exploring the natural and graceful flow of the body and breath, moving from action to stillness and eventually towards gratitude and acceptance.

She has been a committed practitioner for the last 14 years, returning to India yearly and drawing upon many different styles and teachers to reach a deeper understanding of yoga in her own life. YOGA FOR LIFE - with Gary Carter & Tuesday McNeill

£495

Yoga teaches us how to live a life of balance in a world of constant change. A week of dedicated yoga practice in the heart of nature makes Huzur Vadisi the perfect antidote to 21st century living. We will learn how to combine the physical aspects of posture work with an exploration of yoga's potential for cultivating self-awareness through asanas, breath work, movement enquiry, mindfulness practices and relaxation techniques. As you learn to understand your thoughts, feelings, physical habits and reactions on the yoga mat, you can begin to apply what you discover to everyday life.

Gary Carter has over 25 years of experience in movement physical training, anatomical study and bodywork practices. With a background in athletics, competition cycling, bodybuilding, martial arts, yoga and manual therapies, he has studied with many inspiring teachers, trainers and masters in their fields.

Gary's sessions aim to help students discover a way of practising that leads them towards wholeness and freedom of movement; wholeness because the whole body becomes involved in every movement, and freedom because when the body moves in an integrated way, it experiences no block or limit and no part of the body is put under stress. Only then can we actively release tension and unblock the deep, alive movement of the spine.

Tuesday has been teaching for 17 years and practicing for 22. Her open and down to earth approach makes the practice accessible to everyone. Her main influences are from Iyengar, Scaravelli and Sivananda traditions of yoga. Her sessions will focus on asana work to encourage ease of movement and freedom for the breath in preparation for the subtle practices of pranayama and meditation.

The price includes all accommodation (single room supplement of £60 applies), 3 meals a day and all yoga. It does not include flights, insurance, transfers or day trips.

Vinyasa Flow Yoga Holiday Retreat With Marlene Henny

£520

Marlene is an experienced certified Iyengar Yoga and Prana Flow teacher from the Netherlands. In her classes she combines her knowledge of Vinyasa and Iyengar yoga, teaching with a clear eye on body alignment and giving precise guidance on how to work intelligently with yoga. She also incorporates the influence of her dance background where she lets students move the body through its entire range of motion on the wave of breath.

Vinyasa is a term that means “breath-synchronized movement”. It is a principle that when applied with intent and intelligence, can create a powerful experience of flow and strength, stability and freedom. In this week we will explore a range of approaches to practice which will encompass both softness and ease, and power and challenge. Each day we will explore morning meditations, breathwork and asana classes. We will also practice more challenging postures such as arm balances, inversions, and delve into a variety of backbends, integrating core, alignment and bandhas into the practice.

Bikram Yoga with Michele Pernetta

£765

Bikram Yoga is a system developed by Bikram Chaudhury, described as ‘the best yogi of the 20th century’ by Swami Shivananda. It is a fun and challenging series of 26 postures, which are normally practiced in a hot room - at Huzur Vadisi the August weather will supply the necessary heat which allows muscles, ligaments and joints to perform at their optimum, and allows deep changes and healing to take place. It also promotes sweating to flush toxins from the body. The class is suitable for all levels from beginners to advanced, as each student works to their own level, and is aided by the famous Bikram ‘posture clinics’ in which students are guided individually to deepen their practice, or to heal particular injuries.

Michele came to Bikram Yoga when, as a martial arts instructor living in Los Angeles, she seriously injured her knee. She was so impressed by her recovery using the method that she went on to study with Bikram Choudhury himself for four years, and has been teaching for nine years. Michele has opened the first three Bikram centres in London. This is her eighth year at Huzur Vadisi.

The two weeks with Michele can be booked separately or consecutively.

Scaravelli Inspired Yoga
with Catherine Annis

£570
(£1090 for two weeks)

This will be a glorious week of slow and gentle explorations of the body, mind and spirit, focusing on gently awakening our physical awareness. Together we will explore elements of the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli, including breath, and the flow of gravity through the body to reveal and release the natural freedom of the body, particularly the spine. This approach to yoga gradually enables us to reveal long-held patterns, helping us find a new lightness and suppleness.

To complete the experience, we will also be joined by Robert Annis, a very talented and intuitive massage therapist, who will be on hand to soothe aching muscles and help everyone to simply wind down, and enjoy the simplicity and beauty of this lovely space.

Catherine runs popular classes at Triyoga, and is well known for her imaginative and light hearted approach to teaching. She was originally a professional dancer and has been practicing yoga for over 25 years. She holds a Masters degree in ballet studies and is a qualified Thai massage practitioner, and it is this interest in the body which informs and inspires her teaching. She has studied Sivananda, Iyengar, Ashtanga and various forms of Hatha yoga before gravitating to the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli, particularly as expressed by John Stirk.

Yoga with Julie Potter and Guided Walks

£445

This week of yoga and walking in October will give people a flavour of 'out of season' Turkey with lovely warm and sunny daytime temperatures, but with that autumnal sparkle in the air which makes it perfect for walking and for great views without the summer haze. The shops and restaurants are all still open, but it's quiet, more a time for the locals. The sea is still warm, and we can do a boat trip, or a beach trip.

Julie's yoga sessions will be twice daily, one in the morning and one late afternoon. (On walking days the times of the yoga sessions may vary.) Julie has been practising yoga since 1993 and is a BWY qualified teacher. Her studies began with roots in Iyengar Yoga, and over the years have moved towards the idea of natural body movements, and posture work related to the alignment and well being of the body with particular attention to human anatomy. She teaches at the studio and at several local Health Clubs and Sports Centres. She also teaches corporate classes and ‘one to ones’. Her classes are suitable for beginners, as well as for more experienced students, and while conducted in an atmosphere of dedicated practice are also warm and friendly.

There will be three guided walks led by the Huzur Vadisi staff in this beautiful unspoiled mountain location. One will be to the top of the mountain behind Huzur Vadisi, where views from the firewatch station are stupendous - you can see the mountain ranges rolling into the far distance, and looking towards the sea you can see the Greek island of Rhodes; another is down a spectacular gorge into Gocek our local seaside town, with great views again, and one through the forest following the old footpaths used by the villagers to take their animals to the higher pastures. The first two need a reasonable level of fitness, around 4 hours with steep stony paths on parts. The third walk will be shorter and easier. People can opt to do all three walks, some, or none. It's also possible to do shorter local walks on your own from Huzur Vadisi if you wish.

Walking boots or good shoes are needed. You should also bring warm clothes and socks, including a waterproof jacket (just in case), as well as shorts, swimming costume, jeans, T-shirts, yoga clothes etc. It's really a matter of dressing for two seasons - summer by day, and autumn by night! Despite the outdoor aspect of life at Huzur Vadisi, we are well set up to keep you cozy should the nights be cool, with woodburning stoves, quilts, and a yoga sala which can be enclosed if necessary.
